The Jersey breed is built up from the work of farmer-breeders whose selection efforts gave us breed characteristic consistency and trait mating variety.   Our efforts today need to do the same thing: (1) maintain all Jersey breed advantages, (2) maintain the trait variety in cow families that offer heterosis to the basic trend in the commercial cow mainstream.

The AI industry depended upon Breeder proven sires for Jersey marketing until recent decades.  For examples:

Secret Signal Observer (sire of both Observer Chocolate Soldier and SS Quicksilver Fallneva) was bred by and proven at High Lawn Farm, Lenox MA.

Milestones Generator (who sired both the dam of "Top Brass" and "Duncan", and the maternal grandsire of "Sooner") was bred by Mayfield Farms, Athens TN and proven by Cedarcrest Farms, Faunsdale AL, before going to ABS.

Brigham Vol Zev of Ogston and his sire "King Tut" sired the dams of Scultz Performing Legend and Quicksilver Magic of Ogston (who is sire of "Duncan") and never left his breeder, Ogston Farm, (John Bishop VI) Columbus NJ.

Favorite Saint one of the first +2000m bulls to also be significantly "plus" type, was bred and proven by Cedarcrest Farm, Faunsdale, AL before going to Select Sires.

Highland Magic Duncan was selected in his New England home turf by Phil Fanelli for the Jerseyland Sire syndicate, Hilmar CA and proven in their herds before going to Select Sires.

WF Generator Justin who has one of the most successful careers as a sire of showable brood cows, was proven by his breeder, the Waverly Farms of Clearbrook, VA, before going into AI. (It looks like his great-grandson, JVB Red Hot BC, could follow in his hoofprints.)

So what's my point?   The purebred Breeder who knows his breed has an equal ability to contribute the traits the Breed needs, and the easiest way is by sharing the usage of his bulls with others..
