"BELINDA'S COUNCILLOR" 179JE 057 JVB RED HOT B C aAa 3-5-1-2-4-6 Semen price $10 Sunny Day Bold Belinda EX 94% came to JVB Red Hot Jerseys in Carleton MI as the top selling animal in the Sunny Day herd dispersal in SC. She was controversial, due to her sire (MVF Bold Venture Daniel, a great production sire with a variable type pattern) and due to her dam not living up to the pedigree promise of being a "Berretta" from their famous "Yankee Becky" cow. But that is all history. "Bold Daniel" has active AI sons and some respected breeding daughters, of which JVB's pick is arguably the most successful. "Bold Belinda" reached 94% on type appraisal, made a 190,000m lifetime total (every lactation over 30,000 pounds by 365 days) and has EX daughters from different matings being used as 'contract' cows and providing sale-topping heifers. Her first sons in AI now have evaluations, and prove her ability to transmit both production and type as good as you might expect from the pedigree combinations involved. The bull has matured into a very long-bodied, open ribbed, clean cut specimen. His oldest daughters are now milking at Jon and Matt Dunks' in Union City MI.

WHY COUNCILLOR? Glenholme Councillor is a bit different from the sort of mating suggestions Jim was receiving in contract offers on "Bold Belinda". But it was a mating Jim wanted to do for himself, in hopes of a heifer that could grow into a long lifetime brood cow. Of course, as these things happen, a bull was born instead of the hoped-for heifer, and saved for the "Breeders Choice" Sire program. "Councillor" was controversial as a thicker, typier sort of Jude son (blame that on having a Supreme EX dam sired by WF Generator Justin) -- but his substance was exactly what Jim Vanbuskirk was seeking as a complement to "Bold Belinda's" flat bone and highly angular physique. Of course, at this stage, we now know "Councillor" not only as a premier source of health and fitness traits leading to a high Productive Life rating, but also as a positive influence for both bf% and pr%. The few sons AI sampled have proven to be useful and competitive bulls. The dam of "Councillor" lived 17 years, calved 15 times, produced over 220,000 pounds of milk in her lifetime, and did a bit of showing along the way. So in "BC" you not only have the lifetime 200,000 pounds from "Yankee Becky" (see below) but the 220,000 pounds from "Clara", as well as "Belinda's" 190,000 pounds, to support our belief that BC can sire cows with a full lifetime of competitive "real" value.

SUNNY DAY YANKEE BECKY (EX 90%) She is one of the "transition era" cows combining the production genetics in such a way as to gain the attention of the Holstein-dominated dairy world toward Jersey potential. Her sire, Yankee FW Chief, was controversial similarly to "Bold Daniel". Most of his daughters were just early maturity, lower testing, commercial type milk cows. But he did sire enough of the long life brood cow kind (WF/LM Chief Barb, Greenridge FW Althea, Yankee HL Ginger) to make an impact as a breeding bull. "Becky" lived to make all her many lactations above 20,000 pounds per lactation her entire milking career, and produced many good daughters for Sunny Day. She was perhaps the first Jersey cow ever to milk at "Holstein competitive" levels of volume her entire life, who got public credit for doing so-- but she also tested like a Jersey.
