COMBINING "JUNO" AND "M C TOPS"
NETTLE CREEK C TOPS RASCAL -ET
179JE 036 Semen price $7.00
aAa 1-6-2-3-4-5
The first bull acquired by Breeders Choice Sires was Juno Rocco of Nettle Creek ET, the last son of Billings Top Roseanne (EX 96%) -- sired by "Juno" -- whom we sold to Taurus Service, like us an admirer of the "Roseanne" cow's deep family inheritance. As 76JE 123, he eventually proved out to be one of their leading bulls on the longevity indicator PTA "Productive Life".
"Rocco" has a full sister, named JUNO ROSEANNE OF NETTLE CREEK (EX 92%) who is now a brood cow in her own right, with EX daughters from three different sires. Through "Juno Roseanne", the "Rose" cow line can now boast ten generations of EX females in direct maternal line.
John and Brenda Lewis of Jerome, MI, have one of the better Jersey breeding herds in Michigan, one of the few who give JVB Red Hot Jerseys some State Fair competition (recently showing the State Fair Futurity winner) -- milking around 40 cows. They acquired "C TOPS RASCAL" as a calf from his well known breeder, Dr Rick Dalessandro of Richmond, IN, using him first on heifers, and the first milking daughters are within their small, select herd.
We saw him at Lewis' and decided that he was phenotypically somewhat a reincarnation of his famous grandsire "Juno" -- taller and stretchier than his uncle "Rocco", more dairy than his sire "C Tops".
When Lewis' could no longer deal with a bull of his size, we agreed to a joint semen collection and brought "Rascal" to the market, for those who liked the "Juno" look.

HIGH CONCEPTION SEMEN AND GOOD UDDERED DAUGHTERS
That has proven to be the story on JUST A FEW JUDE EASTON
aAa 3-5-4-1-2-6 179JE026 List Price $8.00
Semen available in Canada-- contact Janice Marshall at Just A Few Fotos
This bull was one of the last "Jude" sons to be sampled, and he has milking daughters now in three countries-- Canada, then the USA, and then the UK (England). His inheritance is quite high for both butterfat % and protein %, from a traditional Canadian pedigree that can offer you "outcross" when you feel you have all the "Sooner" blood you want.
Like most Jude sons, he is not a perfect bull, but if you need a more efficient sized cow that has more spring to the rib and width of rear end than you are getting from other choices, this bull is the right one for you. But what pleases us most is to see the steady gains he has made in two highly important evaluation areas: (1) Productive Life, and (2) Jersey Udder Index.
His first heifers in Canada and the UK included many show type successes. This result has taken longer to materialize in the USA but he is capable of making the "right kind" on the tall, style sort of cow where you need a more "wedgy" result in the body.

PATRICK'S (NOT SO LITTLE) BROTHER
140JE 059 BRIDON PREMONITION
aAa 3-5-1-4-2-6 Semen price $ 10.00
(Also available at Taurus Service, Mehoopany PA)
If you lived in the upper midwest, and went to any major show in the 1990s, you might see Ron Mosser with a string of "Patrick" offspring, winning enough to get your attention.
The "Patrick" bull was an earlier result of a collaboration between Norm Nabholz of Iowa and Brian Sayles of Ontario, in the "Patsy" cow family, that eventually produced BRIDON PREMONITION after the dam of "Patrick", SAMPLE PATRICE (VG88% USA, EX-Canada) moved to Ontario.
OUTCROSS TO "SSO", LINEBRED "SLEEPER"
"Premonition" caught our eye as a yearling when his generally outstanding individuality for type was first recognized. Our interest quickened when we realized he would also be a major outcross to the prevailing sire lines in the USA, as his pedigree contains none of the blood of Secret Signal Observer.
His sire is MASTER C TOPS, who was always under private ownership and thus had little distribution of semen. "Tops" was a son of Master Milestone C from the "Topsy" granddaughter, Gusto Milestone Christmas Day (EX90%), bred by Max Gordon in IN. He went to Rock Ella at a young age, and was there until his aggressive disposition brought on his demise with little semen remaining. "Tops" is recognized today as one of the unique Jersey phenotypes-- wide thurls, flat rumps, flat thighs, long bodies, soft udders, great fore udders and teat placement. His highest profile son is Hollylane R Response, his highest profile daughter is C Tops Impressive (EX95%).
His dam is SAMPLE PATRICE, bred by Norm Nabholz of Iowa, owned in partnership with Brian Sayles, eventually moving to Ontario as part of the Bridon Farms Jersey herd. "Patrice" was sired by an early son of Milestones Generator (Sample Generator, 14J 145) and from the interestingly linebred cow, Zettas Advancer Patsy (EX92%), whose sire was a son of Nancys Sleeping Advancer. Besides her fame as the dam of Nabdon Master Patrick (sire of "Nadine" and "Buffy'), she has produced a variety of good daughters (including a full sister to "Premonition") and the cow family remains a source of substance and good udders.

IS MARTHA'S SON THE BEST RENAISSANCE?
114JE 010 MORDALE REN RAPTOR
aAa 6-4-2-1-5-3 Semen price $15 (limited supply)
(Available in Canada from his breeder, Gregg Mortson)
Pleasant Nook J Imp Martha (Supreme EX) took awhile to get the attention she deserved outside of Canada, due to something she could not control-- her maternal grandsire. Let's face it, while JS Quicksilver Royal was a big success in New Zealand and Canada, he was not always so in the USA, and if not for his son, Comfort Royal Alf, would be mostly forgotten here.
But he made some good cows in Canada, where they had the depth of hoof and flatness of bone to cover for his problems there. Then, when you mated them to Meadowlawn J Imperial, you could fix the other issues with front (wide) and rear (tipped in) teat placement pretty easily. "Martha" is the most successful result of that pedigree progression.
Remember Pleasant Nook Regal Madison (EX) who made the 2000+ pound butterfat national record for Piedmont Jerseys in Quebec? That cow is a daughter of "Martha"-- thus a maternal sister to the "Raptor" bull. But she is not the only good daughter of "Martha". She maintains the J Imperial tradition of being a long-lifetime brood cow and has earned multiple "stars".
"RAPTOR" so far is viewed more favorably by Canadian than USA type appraisers-- in the winter of 2007 "Raptor" was showing an 89% Good Plus or better type rating on his daughters north of the border.
Compared to the typical son of "Renaissance", we see more substance and strength of bone in the "Raptor" offspring.

C TOPS IMPRESSIVE AND DUNCAN BELLE
179JE 045 IMPRESSIVE INTEREST
aAa 2-6-1-3-4-5 Semen price $ 8.00 (limited supply)
(also available through Taurus Service, Mehoopany PA)
Jon and Matt Dunks at Union City MI are second and third generation Jersey breeders on a larger scale (200+ cows milking) in SW Michigan. They farm extensive acreage and are a production focused dairy, intending to make their family incomes from Jersey milk.
While the cow herd is 100% AI bred, farming and cropping with minimal labor has dictated they breed heifers naturally. In recent years, the Dunks' have been in the habit of buying or leasing bulls from cows (and Breeders) they know and admire for this purpose.
We found "Impressive Interest" at Dunks' after he had already impregnated 40+ heifers, liked how he looked and moved, and made arrangements to collect semen after they felt they were done with him. In our opinion, he had the "look" of his flat-ribbed dam "Impressive" and we felt, with the combination of Duncan Belle on top (as paternal grandam) with Master C Tops on the bottom (as maternal grandsire) we could end up with a better fore udder bull than otherwise expected from his worthy sire, Rock Ella Perimiter.
Results to date have met our expectations. "Interest" sires cows with average milk and above average test %, with functional, soft-textured udders, well blended fore udders, longer and flatter rumps than typical Jersey, good stature, and a deep, flat rib.
If you like "C Tops Impressive" you may wish to also check out IMPRESSIVES DEVINE who is a more recent addition to the BREEDERS CHOICE SIRES lineup of Jersey sires.
