FERNS FASHION ICON 147JE 6150 aAa pending (expecting 3-5-4) List Price: $12 Our current price is $10 Combining the Canadian type of "Amedeo" with the cow line depth of "Sambo Fern" 'ICON' is fairly new to our lineup, but we appreciate the inclusion as he offers a different pedigree and phenotypic mating direction to the variety of sires in our list. "Amedeo" is a Grove son of one of the greatest "Juno" cows that ever walked. He was acquired by Doug Robinson of Payneside Jerseys (eastern Ontario) and eventually a small quantity of semen was produced to meet the demand of those discriminating breeders who recognize the unique cow ability of Mr Robinson. "Amedeo" eventually sired the current highest scored Canadian Jersey cow (scored EX 97 in 2007) and is one of the top ranked sires for overall type ability. "Icon" is a result of mating Amedeo to Family Hill Sambo Fern (EX94%)-- a great cow who has until recently stood in the shadow of her more famous stablemate, "Circus"-- but now coming into her own reputation as an elite type cow, a representative of the best in Jersey maturability, and possessing a depth of maternal pedigree that traces through Jersey royalty all the way to Designs Fashion Fern -- a name your Grandfather would recall as a noted Island-bred cow, greatly ahead of her time in the evolution of Jersey type in the USA. "ICON" is owned by a partnership of USA and UK breeders, so will see worldwide use. Look to "Icon" to make the wide rumped, well sprung cow, with an upstanding front end.
'FERN' -- POSSIBLY THE BEST 'SAMBO' EVER?? "Fern" is sired by Lesters Sambo-- sometimes forgotten as an early success story for the cow line descendant from Duncan Belle (EX92% USA, EX-3* Canada), as he was a "Lester" son from one of the two "Sooner" daughters of old "Belle" (thus overlooked in earlier years as a "PD" pedigree). "Sambo" is one of those bulls who makes a nice little barn cow on the average-- makes a big horse cow on occasion-- but has also managed to make a few standouts that caught attention, like Pleasant Valley Sambo Teal, when he was mated back to the "Sleeper" type side in common with the "Belle" family's maternal pedigree line. "Fern" represents that effect. Thus with the addition of "Amedeo" on the top side, you get a sire who can bridge the modern fast maturity with the "Sleeper" continuing mature development.
